THE PREP
Knowing I was going to have an early morning on the day of filming, I did most of my preparation the night before. The most essential preparation for and film or photo shoot is making sure you have a shot list for yourself and any prompt, such as a script, for your talent. I had both of these prepared the evening before my shoot so that I could grab them and go in the morning.
You'll want to limit the preparation you have to do the day of your shoot but there will always be some. For me, I gathered all my equipment in the morning, double checking that everything was working as I needed it to, I also had to prepare myself. To prepare myself for any shoot I usually have a quick, light breakfast when I wake up and then an early lunch during the shoot. I also like to spend a nice amount of time making myself look presentable, even though I personally am not being filmed, the more professional I look, the more professional I act.
After I went to collect our presenter, Elsie, I then had to arrange her outfit and get her hair and makeup done. As this shoot only required a natural look she did this all herself but in a more glam project you may want to hire a hair or makeup artist.
THE SHOOT
Once Elsie and I were prepped and ready for the shoot we set off for our first location: the office of Dr Steven Neale. On the way to the offices I had Elsie vlog in order to explain what we had in store for us as I did not want to waste the time we had once we arrived at the office.
The objective for this location was simply to interview Dr. Neale in order to find out the answers to all the key science-based questions we had. As director I had to ensure not only that both my subjects were comfortable but that everything was well documented for the show. The rain worsened whilst we were interviewing Dr. Neale and so our plan for outdoor filming on-site had to change. Instead of filming outside Dr. Neale's office, we instead drove home, kitted ourselves up for filming in the rain and went in search of a nice outdoor area to film in. Luckily, Elsie and I soon found a suitable area and so completed the day's filming under a tree with the help of an umbrella.
